Land, design, technology, and community
I'm Andrew Harrell, a landscape architect, educator, and curious problem-solver in Durham, North Carolina.
My work ranges from residential landscapes and design-technology consulting to greenhouses, gardens, teaching, and small creative ventures. It's all connected by a belief that good design creates places for life to happen.
I studied biological engineering before landscape architecture, and I still think like both: I want to know how a site works, and then make it beautiful and useful. That mix is why I love grading, water, and software as much as plants and places.
These days I teach GIS and computational design at NC State, tutor students and professionals in the tools of the trade, support firms with production work, run my studio Deconstruct Terrain, and build things like the Deconstruct Sun app.

Gardens, dogs, and making things
Gardening connects me to food, seasons, and experimentation. My wife and I love exploring new places, especially with our two dogs. And across everything I do runs a love of building things, testing ideas, and learning by doing.
